Introduction

This is the site of Heashin Kwak and her eco-art.

Her progress-based artworks build up over time as visitors weave plastic carrier bags and add other reclaimed waste into installations, adding their signatures or messages in recognition of their participation. The project aims to promote environmental education through the creation and exhibition of interactive eco-art, which is made from reclaimed packaging waste and constructed and evolved by public participation in places where community events are held.

It is designed to visually provoke an understanding of how our polluted planet earth has been damaged by our throw away society whilst encouraging the public to find creativesolutions and alternatives. The work seeks to inspire people not just to consider the way they treat packaging waste, but to explore the ways in which they can express themselves in a positive and artistic way: the cornerstone is the belief that 'everyone is an artist¹ as Joseph Beuys remarks.

The project has been a great success at the fair, the artworks grew with many people adding their contributions. There has been very encouraging feedback from children, parents, school teachers, community groups and artists who have been inspired by the work to take a creative approach to the contents of their dustbins.
